A huge clean-up operation which took place last Sunday along the Río Chíllar resulted in 450 kilos of rubbish being collected. Thirty volunteers picked up items such as plastic bottles, trainers, nappies, bags and glass in the popular natural park, which in summer is inundated with visitors.
Locals and environmentalists blame the lack of control over the numbers of visitors who do the river walk for the rubbish that is left there. They have called on public bodies including the town hall and Junta de Andalucía to act in order to limit the number of people who access the beauty spot.
This was the second such clean-up operation this year and the town hall says that it is “working on an agreement” with the regional authority.source surinenglish
