Strategically located next to the Gibraltar border, the car park, which opened last Saturday, signals important infrastructure developments for La Línea
A new 668-place car park was opened in La Línea last Saturday. The new Santa Barbara car park is strategically situated near to the border with Gibraltar, between Alcaidesa marina and Avenida Príncipe de Asturias.
The project has been brought about thanks to almost two and a half million euros of private capital investment and includes a new roundabout and access lanes for the high volume of vehicles heading to Gibraltar and Los Manolos beach every day .
Of the 668 new spaces that the car park has created, forty per cent are covered.
Saturday’s inauguration was attended by President of the Bahía de Algeciras Port Authority (APBA), Manuel Morón, who said that the new car park was “good news for La Línea”.
More good news for the town came with the announcement that tenders are open for the construction and development of a shopping centre next to Alcaidesa marina.
The shopping centre is the next step in a plan to develop the area to the west of the town, where restaurants along a new section of promenade opened in the same area last year.
The car park, restaurants and new shopping centre will mean a major facelift to La Línea, giving residents and visitors to the town a new space in which to eat, shop and relax.
A third lane in the Avenida Príncipe de Asturias is to be built, allowing traffic to access the area without getting caught up in queues heading towards Gibraltar.surinenglish
