There was good news for the Fuengirola Lions this weekend as the inline hockey season came to a close on Saturday. In only their second competitive season playing in the Liga Andaluza, the Lions were crowned league champions after winning against Sancti Petri and Sevilla.
Their title win comes only a week after the Fuengirola-based team lost to Sancti Petri in the playoff final of the Copa Sur in extra time. Needless to say, the Lions were delighted to have some silverware to show for their efforts this season.
To add to the celebrations, the two junior Lions teams finished second and third respectively; a remarkable feat considering that the juniors’ team do not train at all between matches.
Individual triumphs
As well as triumphing collectively, the Lions have also enjoyed individual success this term. The best goalie of the Copa Sur playoff, the best defence of the Liga Sur and the best goalie of the Liga Andaluza all belong to the Fuengirola Lions. Moreover, four out of five of the top scorers in the Liga Andaluza were Lions players. Elsewhere, both MVPs from the junior league were Lions members.source surinenglish
