The sixth international Festival of Folklore gets underway on the terraces at the Deportivo de Marbella this weekend. Commencing at 7pm this evening, “Europealia” as it is named, will showcase local dance and culture from a number of countries including Bulgaria, Germany, Belarus, Bolivia, Chile and Easter Island. Spain will be represented with groups from Marbella, Segovia, Cuidad Real, Pontevedra, Murcia and Alhaurín de la Torre. The free event, organised by the City of Marbella’s Dance and Folklore group, will run for two days, finishing on Sunday.
In total, 21 folk and dance groups will perform, providing a riot of sound and colour, with additional stands featuring food, crafts and activities to ensure visitors are well entertained and immersed culturally.
“Europealia” is supported by Marbella Ayuntamiento’s tourism department. Miguel Luna, responsible for tourism, said: “This is a unique opportunity for people to experience a melting pot of cultures. It is one of the best international folklore exhibitions and a prominent weekend attraction for Marbella”.
An inauguration ceremony will take place at the port on Friday at 7pm and on Saturday at 5.30pm, there will be a grand procession with participants that will make its way through the old town and along the promenade. “Europealia” concludes on Sunday at 4pm.source surinenglish
