The Diputación de Malaga (provincial government) which restored the Caminito del Rey and opened it in April last year has announced that it will no longer be managing the gorge walk.
From 1 April the attraction will be in the hands of a management company that will take it on for a maximum of four years at an annual fee of 75,000 euros.
Entry to the walk will no longer be free and the Diputación said it expects tickets to cost a maximum of 10 euros per person. No details were given about discounts. At least nine per cent of revenue will go towards maintaining the walk.
El Caminito will continue to restrict visitors to 1,100 people a day and 300,000 a year. It will open from Tuesday to Sunday all year with the exception of public holidays during Christmas.
Ardales, one of the entry points to the walk, has seen a huge rise in visitor and accommodation levels since last April.source surinenglish
