Vélez-Málaga shows gratitude to doctor with sculpture
Vélez-Málaga commemorated the 1937 escape to Almeria last Sunday, with a parade from the Parque de la Memoria in Torre del Mar to the roundabout at the Río Seco in Caleta
A sculpture was unveiled by Francisco Martín of Norman Bethune, a Canadian doctor who came to the area to help injured refugees. Over 100 people took part in the event, including the mayor of Vélez, Antonio Moreno Ferrer.
Local PSOE leader, María Gámez, announced that she has written to the mayor asking for a commission for events of historical importance.source surinenglish
