Trocadero Marbella secured their first victory of 2017 against one of their direct rivals in the league to maintain their aspirations of staying in the national league during their debut season. Before the game, there was a minute silence for the recent death of the father of local player Andrés Marolla Costa.
The Marbella outfit started stronger, with the young Callum Grenfell displaying his individual skill to evade the opponents’ efforts to tackle him and score after just three minutes. As always, Andrés Marolla was on hand to add the conversion.
Despite being in front, the hosts were feeling the pressure of the occasion and it showed in their play. They conceded a number of penalties and soon found themselves two men down after a pair of yellows. Although the visitors held a significant numerical advantage, they were unable to break down a resilient Trocadero defence and had to settle for two penalties to cut the gap to 7-6.
With a full complement back on the field, the Marbella side began to regain the advantage. However, they had to wait until the last part of the first half before they scored again, with arguably the best play of the game. Lucas Pomposiello caught a high ball before grubbering through the first line of defence and regathering the ball. From there, with the help of Daniel Camarero and Callum Grenfell, the three youngsters went through a series of off-loads before the same man who started the move, Pomposiello, ran in under the posts. Andrés Marolla again converted to give Trocadero breathing space at 14-6.
The second half began with the hosts on top and man of the match Grenfell quickly increased their lead with his second converted try of the match to bring the scores to 21-6. However, the visitors did not throw in the towel and were rewarded four minutes later with a try of their own. The conversion struck the post to leave the side ten points down at 21-11.
The last 15 minutes were a nervous affair for both sides, but Trocadero held firm and maintained a better rhythm, adding further points through the boots of Marolla and Pomposiello. A sinbin for the away side in the final ten minutes put the game beyond all doubt as the Marbella side strolled to victory 27-11.
The win means that Trocadero rise in the table to seventh place with 28 points. They face a tough trip to Madrid for the next game against C.R.C. Pozuelo, who lie second in the table.source surinenglish
