Residents fed up with "dangerous'' Caminito del Rey access road

Owners of homes along the local road from Álora town to the restored El Caminito del Rey scenic walkway are calling for urgent improvements to be made to the road surface.
The amount of traffic using the narrow twenty-kilometre lane has increased “fivefold” since the visitor attraction in El Chorro gorge opened eighteen months ago.
Neighbours have been complaining about the state of the road running past their homes for a long time, and the increase in cars has made a bad situation worse they say.
Francisco Cárdenas, chairman of the residents’ association in the Llanos district, says that there has been a surge in accidents.
“There are children living here, and we are frightened that they can’t even go out into the street with out the risk of someone hitting them,” he explained.
He went on to point out that before El Caminito it was mostly locals making the journey who knew the road and its faults well.
Junta de Andalucía sources have told SUR that although technically the route isn’t a formal road at all, but a service road to El Chorro dam instead, a solution to the problem is being looked into.source surinenglish
