After a three-year wait, formal approval for Malaga city's plan to turn the old Benítez barracks site near the airport into a large public park has arrived from the Junta regional government. No date has been fixed as yet for an opening as the town hall still needs to draw up detailed plans for the landscaping, which must take into account some points raised by the Junta. Once the detailed design is in place it needs to go before different public authorities again. In the meantime Malaga's mayor has said he may consider allowing the public to access the land at weekends.source surinenglish
