Estepona is to host its first ever international mural competition from 10 to 20 July. A jury will select 10 artists to paint their work on the façades of buildings in the town.

A winner and a runner-up will then be selected from the 10 candidates, with the former receiving 10,000 euros while the latter will receive half that amount.

The artists' work will take the number of murals in the town up to nearly 50 in what the council is describing as an "open-air museum".

Side events to involve young people and marginalised groups will also be taking place during the ten days of the competition, including tourist-guide training for unemployed residents of the city on the Ruta de los Murales, the route designed for visitors to take in the various different murals.source surinenglish
