Biggest snowfall in years turns Malaga province white

A historic snowfall early on Thursday morning left the town of Ronda without road access, closing schools in the area. Several drivers were trapped on the roads and an accident involving a jackknifed lorry on the A-374 worsened the situation. Snowploughs were at work at several points of the road network but despite this, the traffic authorities admitted it was overwhelmed with calls to signpost dangerous zones.

Many roads affected remained closed on Thursday evening, including the A-372 to Montejaque while others, such as A-7276 to Cuevas del Becerro, could only be used by cars fitted with snow chains.

Motorists travelling in the Ronda area are advised to fit snow chains and consult the information, also available in English, on the DGT website (www.dgt.es) before setting off.source surinenglish
